Jeep : J10 Pickup Truck Honcho Jeep J10 Honcho Levi's Special Edition 4x4 1 owner
I am the original owner of this Jeep Honcho J-10 Levi's Edition truck. I bought this Jeep brand new in 1978. It has a 360 motor that was recently completely rebuilt. I've only driven it 1,589 miles since the rebuild. It has a clean title with no accidents, current smog check and it is registered until June 2012. It has super cold air-conditioning, tilt steering wheel and the stock am/fm/CB radio that works fine. This is the head unit Jeep installed with the CB right in the radio. It has power steering and power brakes. I had the transmission rebuilt 2 years ago. I had the fulltime QuadraTrac changed into part time 4x4 which increased my gas mileage 19%. It has 2 gas tanks, a 36 gallon and 21 gallon so you can literally travel about as far as you want to go without refilling. It has the original front tire mount/brushguard for the spare tire which I have. I also kept the original rollbar for the truck bed when/if you remove the camper shell. The shell is a raised roof style so you have plenty of room to move around while inside if you want to go camping or haul tools, feed or anything else. It is also shaped so you get less wind drag while driving. You can tow with this Jeep as it has a heavy duty frame mounted hitch and it is wired for trailer towing. I've only used it to tow a small open 8 foot utility trailer and a 16 foot boat for a few summers. It has a new heavy duty radiator which was custom built from scratch, primarily because the dealer could not find an oem replacement at the time of the motor rebuild. The paint was redone 2 years ago and the interior was redone 3 years ago. There is no rust on the body. The cheap chrome on the mirror base has surface rust only but this will come off with Petroleum Jelly. This Jeep has always been in California. I did not have the original Levi buttons sewn back on the seats when I had the interior done because they were sort of silly to begin with, but I did stay with the original tan look. The only thing missing from the Jeep is the little rubber part on the window crank for the passenger door ($5) and the two rubber endcaps for the rear bumper which would also be about $5 each once I find them at a local parts yard or here on Ebay. I only use this truck for trips to home depot, the dump towing my utility trailer with garden waste, and to my granddaughter's soccer games. I drive it about twice a month. It has never been abused in anyway. It has not been used in construction, as a painter's truck, as a landscaping truck, and has not been offroaded in more than loose flat desert sand. It has has always been for pleasure use and not my daily driver. It has never been in the snow or mud. It has low miles at only 180,973 miles which is an average of only 5500 miles per year, or about 1/3 of what AAA says most people drive (15,000+ per year). I also have all receipts for the last 33 years. I say this because all the work was performed by the local Jeep Dealer and other professional shops in my area. No mechanical work was done in my driveway, or by 'a neighbor' or by any shadytree mechanics. Even simple oil changes were done on time and by a professional mechanic. I have noticed that many people say their motors and/or transmissions were "rebuilt" but when you ask for proof of this the seller has either lost the paperwork, has no paperwork, or says the most common phrase of all,,,,,, "a friend of mine has a shop" and of course the "friend" did not give the seller any receipts. I have receipts. I have 33 years of receipts. You don't see these trucks around and when you do find one they are not virgin Jeeps anymore. They have been raised, have huge transmission killing tires, or have been offroaded more than they should have been. Many have been owned by 5 or more people, have rust issues, and have no provable mechanical work done, besides maybe brakes and oil changes. I actually doubt you will ever find one that the original owner is selling. I feel this Jeep will never lose it's value and may even go up in value as more people look for trucks built in America and that have more character and that provide more value for the dollar spent. This is not some boring, common 'everyone has one' Silverado or F-150. This Jeep is like the Harley Davidson of trucks in my opinion. I set a higher minimum bid only because I don't want to waste people's time by bidding $2000 or $3000 which would not even cover the $4000 motor I just put in. This is a nice truck with major new parts, not a tired "ready to restore" Jeep which is what you get for $3000-$5,000 usually. So if you are serious about having an already restored Jeep then I am serious about selling one to you but the price has to reflect some of the costs involved. Regarding the miles: I have noticed that other J-10 sellers here only report what they see on the "5 digit" odometer which is not honest. These Jeeps are 30 years old and don't register past 99,999 miles. There is no way they have only 30,000 or 60,000 or even 80,000 miles. So I would ask for a guarantee in writing if they are actually saying this. You will be surprised at the response you get if you ask for this personal guarantee. They all know their Jeeps have over 100,000 and most likely over 200,000 miles. This is why buying a Jeep with accurate mileage tracking records is important. Sorry but it has to be said. Lastly, I added the 2 photos at the end to show you the original Honcho stickers that used to be on mine but I had taken off when it was painted. Actually if you want to return the Honcho to the original exterior design you can buy the sticker set here on Ebay for around $300. I also wanted to show you the type of rollbar I have that is oem and I still have it. It has 2 pads on top for lights and is already wired for lights. The other photo is just an example of the crazy rock crawlers people can turn these Honcho's into. They are definately a fun truck to own. If you want to work something out regarding shipping let me know. I think a vehicle can be shipped just about anywhere in the US for around $650 and once paid for I can drop the Jeep off at the shipper for you. But if you want to fly in and drive it home I can pick you up at the airport. It might be a nice mini-vacation as I am 10 minutes from Disneyland, 15 minutes from the beach and 45 minutes from the mountains. I live close to LAX, John Wayne Santa Ana, Long Beach and Ontario airports. Please understand this is not a new Jeep truck. I have not detailed it and only rinsed it off briefly for the photos. It could look much better with new wax, some cleaning, tire shine, etc. It is very nice but also 33 years old so please be reasonable in your expectations if you buy it. Please email me with any ?'s you might have.
